It turned out much colder first thing than forecast and we were greeted with a sharp frost. So following his pre-ride ride our Ride Secretary (that’s a lot of ‘rides’, I know) decided on safety first. So 6 split into 2 small groups of 3 and we started off down the B4040 and turned north at Easton Grey to negotiate the ‘grippy’ Bowldown Rd. Passing Nympsfield we enjoyed the view at Coaley Peak before reaching the turn to the Gliding Club and Capers Cafe.
The airfield was busy with gliders taking off, looping back and landing pretty much straight away. I’m no glider expert but I guess the lack of thermals restricts the flying time. (But then what do I know!)
The cafe team were very welcoming and the coffee itself was good.
We travelled back via Kingscote and the delightful Hidden Valley before passing Chaveage House and home via Shipton Moyne.
